Frankensbox fx-800 3D Printer, Wi-Fi, Compact, Quiet, Accurate, Plug and Play Simplicity, (Black)

Frankensbox: What will you CREATE

Will it be beautiful? Will it be ugly?

Creativity is not about perfection, it’s about imagination. Frankensbox connects your imagination to reality.

Beautiful or ugly, it’s your creation!

Create now

As great as 3D printing is, getting started can be understandably a bit daunting. So who wants their initial out of box experience to involve hours of assembling dozens of parts (and hoping their untested machine actually works), then more time and tweaking for setup and calibration?

We don’t either. We like to think, “plug in, install the app, then you’re off to the races,” is the way things are supposed to work these days.

Be better

3D printer companies talk about the speeds their printers can achieve, usually in terms of mm/sec. The reality is that reasonably large and high-quality pieces can take hours.

If your project is going to take hours, your printer better be quiet. And any noise it does make better be soft and pleasant.

It better be compact enough not to take over your work area. And have a design that isn’t an eyesore.

It better be fully enclosed to keep out dirt and paws and small fingers. It better be smart enough to auto-pause when the door is opened. And to auto-resume after the door is closed again. Or after power is restored, were it ever to go out.

3D printer play Aurora Labs soars to new heights

Shares in Aurora Labs soared to fresh dizzying heights this morning after the company announced yesterday it was in advanced negotiations with a major engineering and project delivery company to sell and distribute its 3D metal printers.

Aurora said it was working on a non-binding terms sheet with the company but the details remained “commercial-in-confidence” and the proposal remained incomplete.

The company said it had been in discussions with several of Australia’s biggest mining and resources companies concerning the supply of 3D metal printers to enable them to print spare parts at their mine sites or in a centralised 3D printing facility.

Aurora is looking to team up with a bigger partner with the resources, networks and specialised engineering and technical know-how to market its products to resources companies on a large scale.

$5m to $60m in three months: Perth’s 3-D multi-millionaire

Aurora has two offerings, a small-format metal printer for the retail market and a large format industrial grade metal printer for manufacturing. It claims its printers are up to 100 times faster than those currently on the market, and can be built and operate at a much lower cost.

The company also yesterday released its response to a share price query from the ASX last week when its shares jumped from $2 to $2.45 before the stock entered a trading halt.

Aurora Labs were up 97 cents, or 32.55 per cent, to $3.95 at 8.45am after soaring to an intraday peak of $5.39. The share price give it a market capitalisation of about $215 million.

Aurora Labs listed in August last year at an issue price of just 20 cents.

Its shares were worth a little more than $1 less than a month ago.
